Member Spotlight - Salome McAllen

Tell Us About Yourself:Hi Everyone! My name is Salomé, I was born and raised here in Houston. I’m a scientist that works in the Translational Molecular Pathology lab at MD Anderson (fancy words for cancer research). I’m also an avid runner, foodie, and dog mom to a Belgian Malinois named Luna. How long have you been a member and how did you get started at Cityside? I’ve been a member for almost a year now. I injured both of my knees during a marathon a couple years ago and was recommended starting strength training by a physical therapist, so a few gyms later I ended up at Cityside and have been here ever since! What do you enjoy most about Cityside? I love the community at Cityside, I can truly say I’ve made some friends for life at this gym. I also enjoy how challenging every workout is! I’ve been forced out of my comfort zone and grown so much. What goals/accomplishments have you achieved since joining? I’ve gotten SO much stronger than I ever have been, and have become a more well-rounded athlete. I also was able to compete at the Hyrox competition and in my first Cityside Games without completely dying! Who knew lifting heavy things would be so empowering!!What are your future goals? 2022 is going to be a big year in fitness for me! I’ll be running my 5th marathon in January and running my first Ultramarathon (50k) in March. I hope to keep getting stronger and (hopefully) be able to do a bar MU without a box! I also wanted to thank every single person that I’ve ever convinced to do a training run with me and to all the people that motivated me to keep going even when things got hard, y’all are the best.
